LEAGUES

MORE GAMES - MORE FUN

Pickleball Court and Surface Requirements

For our leagues, it's essential that games are played on appropriate surfaces to maintain the integrity and quality of play. Here are the specific requirements for court surfaces:

Mandatory Hard Tennis Court Surface

All league matches must be played on a hard tennis court surface. This ensures a consistent and fair playing field for all participants.

League Can be Played On The Following

  • Dedicated Pickleball Courts - League can be played on dedicated courts with portable or permanent nets.

  • Permanent Lines On Tennis Courts - League can be played on permanent painted lines on a tennis court. Portable nets may be used for this.

League Is Not Allowed On The Following:

  • No Taped Lines - To avoid confusion and ensure clarity, courts with taped lines are not permitted.

  • No Indoor Gym/Hardwood Surface - Leagues will not be permitted to play on indoor gym hard wood or rubber surfaces.

Minimum Court Quantity

Each league site must have a minimum of 4 Pickleball courts available. This requirement is crucial to accommodate multiple matches and ensure the smooth flow of league play.

Indoor Court Specifications

While leagues can be played indoors, they must not be conducted on hardwood or gym floor surfaces. This is to maintain the standard of play and safety of the players.

Player registration

  • Joining a League

Players with DUPR ratings are eligible to join the league corresponding to their rating. This applies to both gender doubles and mixed doubles leagues.

  • Rating Stability

If a player, like Sally with a 3.47 rating, joins a 3.0-3.49 league, she remains qualified for this league throughout the entire season, regardless of any fluctuations in her rating.

Scenario: Rating Changes During the Season

  • Initial Registration:

If Sally registers for the 3.0-3.49 league initially, she cannot play in the 3.5-3.9 division, even if her rating is close to the higher division.

  • Mid-Season Rating Increase:

If Sally's performance improves and her rating increases mid-season (e.g., to 3.51), she becomes eligible to join the 3.5-3.9 division. She can choose to play in this higher division and join a new team mid-season.

Commitment to Original League:

  • Obligation to Original League:

Despite the rating increase, Sally is still required to play in her original 3.0-3.49 league. If she fails to participate, her matches will be defaulted with scores recorded as 0-11, 0-11 losses.

  • Team Size Consideration:

This rule is enforced only if Sally's original team has the minimum required number of players (eight, including Sally). If her team has more than eight players, she can play in a higher division without penalty. However, she remains on the original team's roster and must play if called upon by her captain, or her matches will be defaulted.

Re-Registration for New Division:

  • Payment for New Division: If Sally opts to play in a higher division, she must re-register and pay the full league fee for that division. There is no pro-rating available for joining a new division mid-season.

  • Choice to Play Up: An increase in rating gives players like Sally the option to play in a higher division. The decision to play up is at the discretion of the player or the recruitment choice of a captain from another team.
